We exist in the stage before the formula begins.
"Products fail not because of lack of effort, but because of lack of structure. Anti-Førmula exists to fix that. Not with another formula. With better thinking."
— Anti-Førmula Core Belief

Tanaka Sande.
A mind molded by one hundred years of history, building the next chapter from Africa.
Tanaka studied Industrial Design at Ningbo University in China — materials, manufacturing, human factors, the logic of how things are made and how they fail. Three years into practice, the gap showed: the education had taught the formula, not what to do when the formula produced the wrong answer.
He went further back. Past the methodology, past the framework — to the designers who never followed a formula. Loewy, the Eameses, Dreyfuss, Gropius. What they shared was not a process but accountable reasoning: thinking rigorously and structurally, from first principles.
Anti-Førmula Studio is what that understanding produced.
Tanaka works from Harare, Zimbabwe — a place with no precedent for this kind of studio and, for that reason, no ceiling on what it can become. He builds with the discipline of the industrial designers he was raised on and the conviction that Africa does not need to consume the products that thinking produces. It needs to originate them.
What we believe.
Not aspirations. Operating rules.
Constraint-Led Design
Constraints define the design space. They don't shrink it. We welcome them on day one.
Clarity Before Execution
Define the problem, surface assumptions, and establish direction before any execution begins.
Tradeoffs Are Mandatory
Every tradeoff is made consciously and documented. When it's made by default, it becomes a fault line.
Form Follows Structure
Form earns its shape by being the only logical outcome of the decisions that precede it.
Real-World Viability
We design for the world as it is, not as a render presents it.
Accountability for Thinking
Every decision has a documented reason. Every assumption is validated or explicitly flagged.
Why this studio exists.
To contribute to building a future where Africa shifts from consumption to production — by designing intelligent, viable, and globally competitive products through structured thinking, not formulaic execution.
To become a globally respected product development studio and evolve into a product development infrastructure that supports the creation of high-impact products across industries — under the Anti-Førmula ecosystem.
The Anti-Førmula ecosystem.
Five entities. One parent identity. None operate before the core studio is stable.
The central engine. Product development and Signal Sprint™ engagements.
Product incubation. The studio originates and incubates product ventures.
Community layer. Designers, builders, and insight sharing.
Talent layer. Training designers in Anti-Førmula thinking.
Collaboration layer. High-impact problems with institutions and strategic partners.

Architecture before execution.
The brief determines the product. The Signal Sprint™ determines the brief.
